What was it about?
The aim of the Pop Up Museum was to reach out to alumni who could share memories about their time at the Cesar Chavez Student Center, and learn about our recent merger with Associated Students. We also wanted to experiment with a new format of event that encouraged participant interactions. We had food and refreshments in the Art Gallery, and the Pop Up Museum in our Richard Oakes Multicultural Center space opposite.
How did it go?
In fact, we received the most interest from current staff and interns, and the current students who saw the event and stopped by. Three interns helped to host the event, and encouraged anyone who hovered to come in and look at the items. About 6 people brought items, but we brought out many items from our own archives, which participants found engaging. Comments included "It has made me appreciate the building in which I work!!!" and "I became more connected to SFSU and its past."
