What was it about?
Chappell Hill has several different cultural groups. We wanted to reach out and be a resource to more of them. The Polish community used to be more involved with the Historical Society, and we wanted to renew the connections. St. Stanislaus Catholic Church is celebrating 125 years as well as 90 years in the current Church building. Virginia and I (Christine) wanted to do something, and brainstormed that the practices of honoring one’s ancestors on All Souls’ Day would be a great way to bring culture and history and the community together.
We reached out to the PGST, as Virginia is a member. They agreed to move their November meeting. Father Jozef Musiol agreed to participate as well. Then I reached out to Facebook and began advertising the event to others in the community. Since many members of the church bring pictures of their ancestors to the mass on November 2, an event honoring their ancestors November 1 would be timely.
It is our hope that we will generate a lot of interesting dialogue about family histories and get conversation happening throughout the group.
How did it go?
We will have to get back to you on that one.
